After midterm exams, thought you could have a little change of pace? something more relaxing where you don’t have to crack your head off… but no, assignments, Assignments, and ASSIGNMENTS keep popping out of no where… and the due date are just around the corner… besides that, ITP due date to register and do the CV are also close to drawing the curtains… have you registered? not only that, after all the assignments and CV…. finals are also drawing near which marks the end of this trimester… and if you are a third year student like me, I think most of you are… after this trimester would be the start of our final year… which marks the beginning of FYP… and we have to start thinking what we gonna do… so many things but so little time…
Do you feel moody? feeling blue? insomnia? loss interest? loss your appetite? don’t have the energy to do stuff? if you answer yes to all or most of it… then you might be depressed… depression could be categorized into two major groups… one is called dysthymia and another is called clinical depression…
Dysthymia is a less severe condition of depression… it is a mood disorder that thought to be a chronic depression… there a re quite a few symptoms which are fatigue, insomnia, loss of appetite or over eating, low self-esteem, poor concentration and feel hopeless… a person must experience symptoms for at least two years and should have no longer than a two-month period without symptoms being present…
Clinical depression is a more severe condition compare to dysthymia… it is also called major depressive disorder… it is a psychiatric disorder, characterized by a pervasive low mood, loss of interest in usual activities and diminished ability to experience pleasure… it is a condition which could severely affects a person’s work, family, sleeping and eating habits, general health and ability to enjoy life… “The course of clinical depression varies widely: depression can be a once in a life-time event or have multiple recurrences, it can appear either gradually or suddenly, and either last for a few months or be a life-long disorder”, Wikipedia…
The treatment for depression varies from patients to patients depending on the seriousness or severeness of the condition… doctors will usually use psychotherapy or prescribe medication such as antidepressant… there are also other treatments including self help and life style changes…
I think that everything is the work of the mind… the mind controls each and every inch of the body… if you are afraid of something and keep on thinking about it… it will eventually become true… so do not let your mind control you, you should control your mind… and always has a positive thinking…
So, are you depressed?
